Provide advising support to international students on matters related to immigration and visa regulations, and acclimation to the university and community environments. The position places a special emphasis on expertise in immigration advising, related University policies and procedures, and production and knowledge of USCIS and DHS forms.

• Advise students on immigration and visa regulations, university procedures and travel procedures related to academics and University employment.
• Facilitate and process immigration document requests from students by serving as Designated School Official (DSO) for the University of Illinois’ F-1/F-2 program, and/or Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) for the University of Illinois’ J-1/J-2 program.
• Process the results of data ext rations from the University database, ISSS database, and Homeland Security’s SEVIS system. Identify students requiring specialized follow-up in order to maintain valid immigration status through course registration, departmental reporting, or other university related procedures to comply with federally mandated reporting requirements.
• Organize or assist with federally mandated new student check in and/or airport transportation and/or orientation as part of the new international student experience, including the possible supervision of student employees.

• Bachelor’s Degree
• A total of one (1) year in education, training and/or work experience within international student affairs, or cultural experience while studying or working internationally.
• Must be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident to fulfill DSO and/or ARO duties.

• Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
• Meticulous attention to detail.
• Ability to work effectively with individuals from varied administrative, academic, cultural, religious, national, ethnic and linguistic backgrounds.

This is a 100% full-time Civil Service 5002 - Program Coordinator position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the close date. The budgeted annual salary for this position is $48,500.
