Job Summary
Provide advising support to international students on matters related to immigration and visa regulations, and acclimation to the university and community environments. The position places a special emphasis on expertise in immigration advising, related University policies and procedures, and production and knowledge of USCIS and DHS forms.
Statement ofDuties & Responsibilities
- Advise students on immigration and visa regulations, university procedures and travel procedures related to academics and University employment.
- Facilitate and process immigration document requests from students by serving as Designated School Official (DSO) for the University of Illinois’ F‑1/F-2 program, and/or Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) for the University of Illinois’ J‑1/J-2 program.
- Process the results of data extractions from the University database, ISSS database, and Homeland Security’s SEVIS system. Identify students requiring specialized follow‑up in order to maintain valid immigration status through course registration, departmental reporting, or other university related procedures to comply with federally mandated reporting requirements.
- Organize or assist with federally mandated new student check in and/or airport transportation and/or orientation as part of the new international student experience, including the possible supervision of student employees.
- Bachelor’s Degree
- A total of one (1) year in education, training and/or work experience within international student affairs, or cultural experience while studying or working internationally.
- Must be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident to fulfill DSO and/or ARO duties.
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
- Meticulous attention to detail.
- Ability to work effectively with individuals from varied administrative, academic, cultural, religious, national, ethnic and linguistic backgrounds.
This is a 100% full‑time Civil Service 5002 – Program Coordinator position, appointed on a 12‑month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the close date. The budgeted annual salary for this position is $48,500.
