Description
  • Assign duties to contract labor and evaluate labor quality
  • Responsible for ensuring that barges are drafted properly
  • Oversee the daily operations within the warehouse, the terminal, and the yard
  • Inspect warehouses and facilities to ensure proper housekeeping and safety standards are met. Report any violations to the terminal manager
  • Proper identification of various cargoes
  • Ensure proper security of all cargoes
  • Oversight of truck and railcar loading ensuring proper storage based on weight
  • Inspect all gear and equipment
  • Stage daily outbound
  • Ensure that all materials to be loaded are available when required.
  • Resolve issues that may arise with inventory and loads.
  • Ability to serve as backup clerk and/or fork lift operator as needed to assist with loading of trucks and railcars.
  • Develop and maintain stow plans for vessels and barges
  • Maintain gang sheets and submit to the production manager
  • Ensure necessary warehouse space is available for upcoming vessels.
  • Ability to determine where cargo can be placed based on weights, dimensions and weather sensitivity.
  • Once cargo is received, check for inventory discrepancies and any damages, and report findings to terminal manager.
  • Inspection of warehouse to ensure that cargo is stored properly by vessel and B/L’s
  • Schedule CPL time in coordination with terminal manager to ensure that warehouse is always supervised by proper personnel
  • Maintain communication with clerks, warehouse supervisors, terminal manager and other terminal personnel
  • Create a system of organization and maintain organization within warehouse
  • Report ALL incidents through company’s reporting protocol
  • Support company safety initiatives
  • Demonstration of knowledge of all required competencies
  • Perform other duties as required
Experience Requirements
  • At least 2 years with similar experience in an industrial warehousing environment
Educational Requirements
  • High school or equivalent (preferred)
Skill/ Knowledge Requirements
  • Must be able to read/write/communicate in English
  • Able to use basic math skills
  • Knowledge of Rigging with proper training
  • Knowledge of all heavy lift cargoes and break-bulk commodities
  • Knowledge and training in basic safety, first aid, and CPR
  • Ability to Manage small teams
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills
  • Knowledge of Maritime Operations
  • Must be able to follow directions
  • Attention to detail
  • Must be able to work rotational shift work
  • Able to perform minor/routine maintenance on equipment and machinery
  • Able to operate forklifts
  • Be physically fit to perform all essential physical demands of this job safely.

Work Environment

Incumbent will work in all weather conditions ranging from warm/hot-cool/cold as well as occasional rain. Will work at different elevations, noise levels will be moderate-high. Job site will contain light to heavy equipment vehicles, small to large equipment, materials, communication equipment, and tools. Rotational shift work required. Twelve or more hours per day spent in work environment.

Physical Requirements

The physical nature of the work will vary from day to day based on operational needs; however the job will require the incumbent to be able to perform: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, typing, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motion. Incumbent will also be required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) including, but not limited to:
Hard Hat, eyewear, safety vests, gloves, masks/ respirators (when necessary) and steel-toe boots.

Experience
  • Required: 2 years:
    Maritime/Industrial Warehouse Experience or Similar role
  • Preferred: Rigging /Heavy Lift Cargo Experience, Break-Bulk and Project Cargo Experience
Licenses & Certifications
  • Required: TWIC Card
