JOB STATEMENT:
The Assistant Controller will support the Controller in managing the company’s accounting operations, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency in financial reporting. This role will oversee day-to‑day accounting functions, assist with month‑end and year‑end close, and help implement internal controls and process improvements. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, proactive, and able to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
- Lead and manage the daily operations of the accounting team, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and fixed assets.
- Supervises, trains, and develops the accounting team, ensuring they have the resources and support to perform their duties effectively.
- Support the Controller with budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis.
- Oversee month-end and year-end close processes to ensure timely and accurate reporting.
- Assist with preparation and review of financial statements, budgets, forecasts, and variance analysis.
- Support annual audits, tax filings, and regulatory reporting.
- Develop, document, and enforce accounting policies and internal controls.
- Identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and accuracy.
- Serve as a key liaison between accounting and other departments, ensuring financial practices support overall business goals.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Education/
Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or CPA candidate preferred).
- 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including supervisory responsibilities.
- Proficiency with ERP/accounting systems and advanced Excel skills.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem‑solving abilities.
- Strong communication skills and ability to partner with both finance and non‑finance colleagues.
- High attention to detail, integrity, and confidentiality.
- Ideal candidate will be inquisitive about the Wine & Spirits industry to build a foundation for career advancement at the company.
- Interact effectively with a variety of stakeholders at our company and our customers.
- Familiar with Microsoft programs (Excel, Word, Outlook) and cell phone applications.
- Ability to work independently and attain goals.
- Ability to use technology.
- Sit for an extensive period of time / driving to accounts and team meetings.
- Lift up to 50 pounds.
- Perform data entry tasks using standard computer equipment and cell phone.
- Use hands to grasp, feel, move, reach or assemble.
- Limited noise level.
- Indoor climate.
