Who can apply?

  • Unemployed youth who have not previously participated in the Yes4

    Youth initiative.
  • Aged between 18 and 29
  • Must be a South African citizen.
  • Must reside close to the workplace area
  • Must not have a criminal record.
  • Must be able to start employment on 1 May 2026.
  • Highest Qualification to be Grade 12
  • Qualification aligned to the position would be an advantage.
  • Valid Drivers' License
  • Climbing, and lifting heavy equipment.
  • Communicates effectively, speaking English is preferred
  • Be able to plan and execute projects

Role Purpose
The Building & Maintenance Assistant supports the efficient running, upkeep, and safety of company
buildings, grounds, and facilities. This role involves routine maintenance tasks, assisting skilled
tradespeople, conducting inspections, and ensuring a clean, safe, and fully functional working environment
for employees and visitors.

Responsibilities:

• Conduct routine inspections of buildings, facilities, and equipment.

• Perform minor repairs (basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry, mechanical tasks).

• Assist with painting, plastering, tiling, and general structural maintenance.

• Replace lights, filters, locks, handles, and similar components.

• Report major faults or failures to the Maintenance Manager immediately.

• Maintain cleanliness and organisation of maintenance areas and storerooms.

• Assist with environmentally responsible waste, recycling, and material disposal activities.

• Support the maintenance of outdoor and surrounding facility areas by ensuring they remain clean,
orderly, and hazard-free.

• Adhere to Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) procedures.

• Conduct safety checks on tools, equipment, and building areas.

• Identify, report, and assist in resolving hazards or unsafe conditions.

• Assist electricians, plumbers, contractors, and technicians with complex tasks.

• Move and set up equipment, furniture, and materials as required.

• Maintain tools and equipment in clean, working condition.

• Record maintenance activities and materials used.

• Monitor and restock supplies, tools, and maintenance materials.

• Assist in ordering replacement parts or consumables through procurement.

• Keep accurate records of completed tasks, inspections, and required repairs.

• Respond to maintenance requests from the Maintenance Manager.

• Provide polite, timely assistance during inspections or repair work.

• Communicate clearly regarding expected timelines for maintenance tasks.

Skills & Competencies:

• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail

• Ability to work independently and in a team

• Good communication and interpersonal abilities

• Physically fit and capable of manual labour

• Understanding of OHS standards and safe work practices

Working Conditions:

• Work performed in both indoor and outdoor environments

• Occasional after-hours or weekend callouts may be required

• Physical tasks may involve lifting, carrying, climbing, and use of tool
