TRANSPORT MANAGER - TEMP / FTC

East London

Circa £45,000 (flexible for the right person)

Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week

Our client is looking for an experienced Transport Manager to step into a busy, high-volume multi-drop operation in East London, covering long-term sickness (approx. 3 months possibly longer, temp or fixed-term contract). They need someone who can bring immediate structure, calm, and control to the transport function.

The Role

You will take ownership of day-to-day transport operations for a fast-paced distribution site delivering stationery, paper products, and office supplies to a wide range of customers including offices, prisons, hotels, shops, and MOD locations. Routes are mainly into Central London with deliveries up to Southend.

This is a high-drop environment (c.40 routes, up to 45 drops per van), with a mixed fleet of vans and a couple of Class 2 vehicles. CPC is not required.

Key Duties
  • Manage daily transport operations, planning, and execution across multiple routes.
  • Support and guide a Transport Supervisor and work closely with warehouse and admin teams.
  • Ensure smooth inbound unloading, daytime staging, and early-morning vehicle loading.
  • Maintain strong compliance standards: driver checks, vehicle walk‑rounds, defect reporting, and maintenance coordination.
  • Handle DVLA matters, RTIs, and any driver‑related police issues professionally and promptly.
  • Drive performance and service levels in a demanding, time‑critical environment.
What We're Looking For
  • Proven Transport Management experience in a high‑volume, multi‑drop setting.
  • Confidence managing drivers and restoring standards in a pressured operation.
  • Strong compliance knowledge (drivers, vehicles, incidents, record‑keeping).
  • Practical, hands‑on approach with a calm and mature leadership style.
  • Experience from parcel / courier / high‑drop distribution environments (e.g., EVRi, DPD, UPS or similar) would be ideal.
Contract and Salary
  • Temp or fixed‑term contract, approx. 3 months (sickness cover).
  • Salary circa £45,000, with flexibility to increase for the right person.
  • Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week (some flexibility around early starts).
