Homelessness Prevention and Solutions Officer

London Borough of Richmond upon Thames is looking for Homelessness Prevention & Solutions Officers to support individuals and families before they become homeless. Two positions are available – permanent and fixed‑term.

Job Title: Homelessness Prevention & Solutions Officer

Contract Types: 2 permanent, 1 fixed term until 31/3/2028, 1 fixed term for 12 months

Salary: £38,976 – £47,229 per annum

Location: Housing Customer Services Centre, 90 Putney Bridge Road, SW18 1HR

• Empower people by delivering tailored housing advice and creating personalised housing plans to help them stay in their homes or find new ones.
• Take action by providing interim accommodation where needed and issuing statutory homelessness decisions in line with legislation.
• Collaborate closely with landlords, support services, and other agencies to resolve complex cases and prevent homelessness.
• Manage your caseload, conduct thorough assessments, and maintain accurate records using our IT systems.
• Work flexibly within a hybrid model that supports a healthy work‑life balance.

• Prevent and alleviate homelessness by offering housing advice and options to those who present as homeless.
• Conduct and review homelessness needs assessments and complete personalised housing plans.
• Work collaboratively with various stakeholders and manage expectations.
• Demonstrate an excellent customer‑centred approach and participate in duty rotas.
• Issue statutory homelessness decision letters aligned with legislation in a timely manner.
• Take on a caseload and manage this effectively.
• Utilise IT systems to accurately update and record information.

• Understanding of why people become homeless and how to prevent it.
• Ability to interpret complex legislation and guidance.
• Experience working in fast‑paced, customer‑facing environments.
• Strong interpersonal and organisational skills.
• Confidence in supporting people with complex needs.
• Resilience and adaptability in challenging situations.
