You will play a key role in shaping and executing sales strategies, collaborating closely with the Head of Sales (Regions) and other business functions to maximise opportunities and resolve challenges swiftly.
- Lead and inspire – manage and coach a team of Sales Account Managers, ensuring clear KPIs and strong personal development
- Drive growth – deliver both team and personal sales budgets, identifying and securing profitable, sustainable new business opportunities
- Be out in trade – spend a large amount of time with customers and alongside your team drive performance and build lasting partnerships
- Shape strategy – work closely with the Head of Sales (Regions) to create and activate innovative sales strategies across the region
- Champion agency brands – ensure our key wines are represented across the Independent On & Off Trade, maximising visibility and value for Berkmann Wine Cellars
- Be an ambassador – establish yourself as a respected and recognised figure within the region
- Collaborate with internal teams – from marketing, finance and operations you will ensure a seamless customer experience
- Degree‑level education, GCSE English and Maths minimum or equivalent
- WSET Level 2 (minimum)
- Proven sales management experience with a track record of driving performance and growth in the wine industry or on‑trade sector
- Strong leadership, coaching, and interpersonal skills
- Track record of delivering profitable growth and building lasting customer relationships
- Strong commercial acumen and understanding of the South West on‑trade landscape
- Experience of using data to drive commercial success
- Advanced level on MS Office
- Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written)
- Holds a UK Driving Licence (with no more than 6 points)
- Competitive salary and bonus
- 25 days annual leave rising to 26 days after 5 years’ service and 27 days after 10 years’ service, plus bank holidays
- Company pension
- Access to our Employee Assistance Programme
- Enhanced Maternity and Paternity Pay
- Contribution to Dental Costs
- Generous staff discount on our wine
- A bottle of wine on your birthday and Berkmann anniversary
- £500 referral scheme
- A company car in line with our electric and hybrid vehicle policy
This is a full‑time role, working 37.5 hours per week, typically Monday to Friday between 9:00 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Given the nature of our clients in the hospitality sector, flexibility is essential – evening and occasional weekend work will be required to support customer needs, events, and tastings. Some activities may also involve international travel, so a valid passport is necessary.
Work will be field‑based and you will need to live within commuting distance of the South‑West region. Our head office is in central London and there will be times when you are also expected to work from there, travel nationwide or internationally.
Berkmann Wine Cellars is the UK's largest family‑owned and family‑run wine importer, proudly supplying an exceptional portfolio of wines to many of the nation's most celebrated restaurants, hotels, and independent retailers. We do not just sell wine – we champion world‑class producers. Our portfolio tells a story of provenance, passion, and partnership. We offer a collaborative, forward‑thinking environment where your expertise and creativity will be valued.
