About the Role
We are looking for an enthusiastic and ambitious Postdoctoral Project Research Scientist to join the Rouhani Lab. The lab is dedicated to understanding the factors underlying an organ's regenerative capacity in order to design novel therapeutics to augment biological function. Our long‑term vision is to apply our findings to stimulate regeneration in other non‑proliferative tissues, understand the process of organ ageing, and elucidate the molecular steps to cancer.
As a PPRS you will drive a project in collaboration with AstraZeneca to develop next‑generation in vitro and ex vivo models of liver biology. The role involves working with bioengineers at the Francis Crick Institute to develop a novel microfluidic perfusion‑based system that keeps patient‑derived liver tissue viable and functional in the lab for prolonged periods under physiological conditions.
- Adapt existing technologies and build next‑generation microfluidic device prototypes under guidance from the Making Labs.
- Test the viability and function of liver tissues.
- Apply gene editing to modulate cellular function.
- Acquire, analyse and review scientific data.
- Work independently to drive the project to completion in a timely manner.
- Collaborate with other lab members and scientists across the Crick.
- Contribute to the Crick’s culture of innovation, openness, and collegiality.
- PhD awarded or in the final stages of PhD submission in related fields.
- Strong track record of writing papers, evidenced by publications in high‑impact journals.
- Expertise in bioinformatics, human genomics, or analysis of high‑throughput data.
- Deep knowledge and experience within core laboratory skills, such as molecular biology.
- Ability to clearly document work and communicate results effectively.
- Ability to work independently and meet key deadlines.
This is a full‑time, fixed‑term 2‑year position on Crick terms and conditions of employment. Applicants for this role will be eligible for sponsorship to work in the UK.
