The UK Collaborative on Development Research (UKCDR) is a shared team working with UK government departments (FCDO, DSIT, DHSC), UKRI, and Wellcome to support global development through the power of research and knowledge. UKCDR undertakes strategic projects that provide data tools, policy insights, and best practice recommendations to support funders in their evidence informed decision-making processes.

About the role

As a Research Data Analyst, you will play a key supporting role in UKCDR’s efforts to promote coherence and collaboration in international development research, primarily through analysis projects. You will assist in the delivery of UKCDR’s policy and data projects, contributing insights from both quantitative and qualitative research activities that align with UKCDR’s broader objectives of supporting funders to advance global development through research.

You will work closely with UKCDR colleagues, as well as with stakeholders from across UKCDR’s funder organisations, to ensure that UKCDR’s outputs are informed by robust data and analysis. There will be opportunities for the job holder to work on a variety of project activity. The role requires you to stay informed about relevant international development policy trends and support UKCDR’s strategic priorities.

Your responsibilities:

  • Assist with the management of UKCDR’s research and policy projects, inputting research expertise.
  • Support with the analysis of quantitative and qualitative data, to enable UKCDR to deliver relevant insights into priority topics.
  • Provide analytical support for publications, reporting, and presentations, working closely with the Principal Data Analyst.
  • Assist in the implementation, maintenance and enhancement of UKCDR’s data mapping tools, including MODARI and other projects.
  • Contribute to research and analysis on international development policy trends.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Collaborate with stakeholders, including research funders, government bodies, and academic institutions, to gather and share relevant data.
  • Assist in communicating research analysis findings to internal and external collaborators, ensuring clarity and accessibility of insights.
  • Help build and maintain relationships with UKCDR’s funders to enhance data sharing and collaboration.

Project Support

  • Deliver project management tasks, ensuring timely delivery of outputs and high-quality results.
  • Report on project outcomes to senior staff and stakeholders.

Personal Specification

The below criteria will be scored during Shortlisting (S), Interview (I) or both (S&I).

Essential

  • A degree or equivalent experience in a relevant subject such as Development Studies, Public Policy, Data Science or similar. (S)
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills with the ability to analyse complex information, summarise key conclusions or recommendations, and evaluate information from varied perspectives. (S&I)
  • Knowledge of qualitative research methods and methodologies, and how to analyse primary and secondary data sources. (S&I)
  • Quantitative analytical skills, including experience with statistical and visualisation software (e.g. Excel, Tableau). (S&I)
  • Excellent communication skills, able to present research data clearly to a variety of audiences. (S&I)
  • Project management and organisational skills, with the ability to progress multiple work streams at the same time, prioritise work effectively, and meet deadlines. (S&I)
  • Effective interpersonal skills and the ability to work closely with stakeholders and the UKCDR team. (S&I)
