Band 6 Senior Recovery Nurse

We currently have a vacancy for a Band 6 Senior Recovery Nurse and we are seeking enthusiastic and committed individuals to join our peri-operative team. The LNWH NHS Trust utilises innovation in peri-operative practice; as such we have a five (5) bedded Post-Anaesthetic Care Unit (PACU) that runs collaboratively with our Recovery Unit. We have a tradition of excellence and our vision is simple, to provide a gold standard in peri-operative practice, and invest in you the people who deliver care.

The Senior Recovery Practitioner supports the Recovery Lead Practitioner in upholding and maintaining excellent quality care being delivered to patients/service users that come through Recovery. The post holder is expected to take the nurse in charge duties as part of his/her role in facilitating efficient and timely day-to-day service delivery. Demonstrate effective organisational, clinical, teaching and leadership skills to lead junior members of staff and colleagues.

To provide and assist in the development of safe and evidence-based specialist patient care in the department. To provide clinical, operational, leadership, and managerial support to Recovery Lead Practitioner.

This is a rotational role between PACU and Recovery Units at Northwick Park Hospital (NPH) and Central Middlesex Hospital (CMH), part of the London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust (LNWUH). Recovery/PACU staff are expected to rotate to all shift patterns including weekends as part of working contract. This post primarily will be focused on the immediate post anaesthetic care on adults and children that have undergone elective to complex surgery.

The post holder:
Is required to function as the nurse in charge ensuring provision of efficient and effective running of the Recovery department. Is responsible for the post-operative care of patients following surgery and is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating programmes of care including admission and discharge planning for each patient in the Recovery area without direct supervision. Is expected to supervise and support qualified and unqualified staff, ensuring that all staff can provide the highest standard of care and promoting best evidence-based practice.

To always promote and maintain effective communication with the members of the multi-disciplinary team, collaborating with the medical team on post-operative care and facilitating timely care interventions. Is expected to administer and supervise the care given to major surgical cases that require an extended recovery period.

London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust (LNWH) cares for the people of Brent, Ealing, Harrow and beyond. Our team of more than 8,200 clinical and support staff serve a diverse population of almost one million people. We run major acute services at:

  • St Mark's Hospital: an internationally renowned specialist centre for bowel disease
  • Ealing Hospital: a busy district general hospital providing a range of clinical services, as well as 24/7 emergency department and urgent care centre, and specialist care at Meadow House Hospice
  • Central Middlesex Hospital: our planned care site, hosting a range of surgical and outpatient services and collocated with an urgent care centre.

We are a university teaching NHS trust, in recognition of the important role we play in training clinicians of the future and bringing the benefits of research to the public
