Position: Lawyer - 15 Month Fixed Term Contract

SIEL’s legal team is based in London and supports SEI’s international offering of asset‑management and UK private‑bank services. The legal team advises on contracts, regulatory matters, drafting and negotiating agreements across its business lines and supports the development of global business solutions and services. Members maintain a comprehensive understanding of UK financial services regulation and laws, knowledge of investment product structures and collaborate with external counsel and global SEI legal and compliance teams.

What you will do:
  • Provide transactional and advisory support primarily to SIEL’s Asset Management business unit and other units as demand requires, drafting and negotiating client agreements and advising on regulatory and structural aspects of products and services.
  • Collaborate with SIEL’s Compliance team to conduct regulatory horizon scanning for UK laws, perform impact assessments of developments, advise business units on implications and support regulatory change projects.
  • Advise SIEL’s business units on general regulatory queries and matters impacting products and services, collaborating with the Compliance Team as needed.
  • Support the General Counsel across litigation, merger & acquisition matters and liaison with specialist external counsel.
  • Support the corporate governance team by drafting terms of reference for Board Committees and board papers.
  • Support and mentor junior members of SIEL’s legal team, providing oversight and guidance.
  • Collaborate with SEI’s Legal and Compliance teams across jurisdictions to ensure advice and negotiation of agreements align to global policy.
  • Escalate appropriate legal and regulatory issues to the Deputy General Counsel and/or the General Counsel.
  • Update and maintain records of legal agreements and projects within SIEL Legal’s documentation management system, ensuring consistency and communication.
  • Maintain commercial and regulatory awareness of current market conditions, fintech innovation, regulation of fintech companies and relevant UK developments, communicating alignment with client business practices.
  • Employees are responsible for identification, assessment and control of risks; maintain understanding of applicable policies, procedures and risk appetite, escalating incidents and completing required Risk Management training.
What we need from you:
  • Strong post‑qualification experience within financial services, preferably in‑house experience.
  • Experience negotiating transactional documentation of various financial services agreements.
  • Knowledge of the FCA handbook and UK laws governing investment advice, management and outsourcing (MiFID, COBS, CASS, PROD, SYSC, Consumer Duty and Sustainability initiatives).
  • Good understanding of Microsoft Office (primarily Word, Outlook and Excel).
  • Excellent drafting skills with an eye for detail and the ability to contextualise issues arising.
  • Good business acumen, demonstrating strategic thinking, commercial awareness and financial principles.
  • Strong communication skills, able to address both legal and non‑technical colleagues from operations to board level, and explain complex legal matters in simple terms.
  • Good awareness of risk management principles and how they apply to the role.
  • Ability to conduct training to individuals and groups on legal or regulatory developments.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Appreciation of when to escalade legal or regulatory issues to the General Counsel.
  • Flexibility and willingness to support and partner with all team members in different aspects of legal and regulatory work as required.
  • Sound judgement combined with diplomatic skills to ensure legal risk is mitigated while retaining commercial focus to achieve business objectives.
