The Terrorism Underwriter will act as a representative within established guidelines to enhance the global position of AXIS. The candidate will be responsible for helping to manage the current book whilst developing new business opportunities, making recommendations based on their knowledge of local market conditions.

• Prospect new business targets and opportunities. Develop and manage a pipeline for prospecting new business, targeting of established and lapsed business relationships.
• Review and evaluate new business opportunities based upon company underwriting guidelines, competition and geographic focus.
• Underwrite an existing, renewing book of business.
• Work closely with distribution partners to ensure AXIS receives opportunity to quote acceptable risks.
• Meet established underwriting team servicing objectives related to quote turnaround, policy issuance, account and renewal management, file maintenance and documentation.
• Reviews coverage requests provided by broker and determine unit’s position relating to such requests within individual authority granted. Present requests outside the individual authority to immediate supervisor for approval or guidance.
• Analyse and underwrite individual risks. Develop appropriate limit structure, retention, pricing and endorsements within underwriting guidelines.
• An understanding of Aggregation Modelling outputs and using these results to help guide but not dictate underwriting decisions (AIR preferred).
• Continue to develop and update product and underwriting knowledge.
• Maintain up-to-date familiarity with economic, Geo-Political and legal factors that impact the unit’s products.
• Participate in special projects and department initiatives at the request of manager.
• Business travel may be required.
• Assist in training and development of more junior team members.
• Confidence to meet individually with clients and be able to articulate the Team’s appetite for risk.
• Keeping up to date with market conditions, market trends and being able to adapt these to day‑to‑day underwriting.

• Highly motivated self‑starter who can quickly assess marketplace opportunities for the benefit of AXIS and its clients.
• A minimum of 5 years’ relevant experience in London insurance market.
• An ability to communicate technical concepts to a non‑technical audience at all levels, including Executive Leadership.
• Strong analytical skills and proven ability to align business analysis with departmental strategy.
