Position: Children and Young People's Occupational Therapist - Bank
Location: City of Westminster

Overview

As a Bank Children and Young Person's Occupational Therapist, you will undertake all aspects of your clinical duties as an autonomous practitioner. You will provide a client-centred and evidence-based service to a caseload of babies, children and young people under 18 years old, primarily in an outpatient setting. Referrals come from consultants, GP clinics and external routes including nurseries/schools and directly from parents and carers.

The post holder will offer assessments, interventions and parental/carer education for a paediatric caseload with developmental, neurological and learning concerns and diagnoses (e.g., cerebral palsy, developmental coordination disorders (DCD), sensory processing disorders, autism spectrum disorders (ASD) and ADHD). The role includes using appropriate standardised assessments and outcome measures and assessing equipment needs. This position offers an opportunity to contribute to developing, growing and shaping CYP therapy services in our new purpose-built CYP therapy department by engaging with other parts of the Bupa family, referrers, local nurseries and schools, and other external agencies.

The post holder will work closely with the MDT and senior staff in the department and wider hospital.

Responsibilities
  • Practise as an autonomous and accountable professional using reflective practice and clinical reasoning to undertake specialist assessments and provide individualised assessments and interventions for each patient.
  • Provide information, education and support for the client group, families and carers.
  • Obtain informed, valid consent on an ongoing basis and involve patients in their own health care plan.
  • Liaise with colleagues to ensure effective coordination of treatment and ongoing aftercare as appropriate.
  • Promote dignity, privacy and safety at all times, with consideration of cultural, spiritual and personal needs and preferences.
  • Complete all Mandatory Training (online or in-person) according to hospital policy.
Qualifications and Requirements
  • Degree in Occupational Therapy
  • HCPC registration
  • Enhanced DBS clearance
  • Proven up-to-date knowledge and experience in a variety of conditions with babies, children and young people including neurology, neurodevelopment, DCD and sensory processing
  • Knowledge of standardised paediatric assessments and outcome measures and competence in administering and analysing them
  • Sound clinical reasoning skills
  • Commitment to multi-disciplinary team working
  • Evidence of recent CPD
  • Record of up-to-date Safeguarding Children level 3 training
  • UK healthcare experience
  • Desirable: experience in ASD, experience in ADHD, sensory integration training, experience in working in a private setting, teaching colleagues, equipment needs assessment (e.g., wheelchair prescription)
