We are seeking a motivated, Band 6 Physiotherapist to join our community Learning Disability Healthcare Team. As a friendly and dynamic team, we provide specialist services for adults with learning disabilities across Wandsworth.

Wandsworth Community Learning Disability Healthcare Team is a dynamic multidisciplinary team with a range of professional groups including nursing, occupational therapy, psychiatry, speech and language, dietetics and physiotherapy. Psychology and behaviour support provision is delivered within an integrated MDT. The service works in close partnership with external health and social care professionals, local providers and third sector organisations.

You’ll be part of a team that is compassionate and supportive and genuinely committed to working together with the people who use our services, their families, carers and wider networks, to act as an autonomous practitioner, taking responsibility for the physio therapeutic management of service users on your caseload.

To undertake advanced, holistic physiotherapy assessments and formulate comprehensive treatment plans and collaborative goals. To be aware of individual service user history, background & culture, and to take this into account in order to plan and implement treatment plans collaboratively with the service user. To monitor and evaluate treatment, regularly measuring progress, to demonstrate and ensure effectiveness of physiotherapy intervention.

To assess and manage risk effectively, ensuring a safe environment in which to practise at all times. To be familiar with commonly used psychotropic medication and side effects. To be able to deliver physio therapeutic interventions while adopting a flexible approach to service delivery. To lead exercise groups as required. To advise service users and direct them towards information/services which promote healthier lifestyles.

To hold a flexible and positive attitude to the development of the role of the physiotherapist within Mental Health Services. To maintain accurate, comprehensive and timely treatment records in line with CSP standards of practice and to supervise junior and student physiotherapists’ record keeping to the same standards. To plan and prioritise the caseload of more junior staff and students where necessary.

You will need specialist clinical assessment skills and the ability to work with people who present with complex physical disability. You will be involved in 24-hour postural management, MDT working in dysphagia management, mobility assessments and falls prevention, as well as optimising exercise…
