Health play specialist or youth worker

Role Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen at UCLH for a qualified Health Play Specialist or Youth Worker to support young people and young adults receiving treatment at Queens Square. The Post Holder will work with young people aged 16‑25, both on the wards and within outpatient services on a referral basis, ensuring appropriate onward referrals are made to local services and that the young person’s transition into adult healthcare is supported.

• Provide on‑ward and outpatient play and youth support to young people aged 16‑25 during admission and discharge.
• Triage outreach referrals and prioritise workload within the acute setting.
• Work flexible hours to meet the needs of the service as and when required.
• Track and record work activities and interventions, and evidence impact through surveys and auditing.
• Engage easily with children and young people, working effectively with MDT colleagues to enhance the hospital experience.

• FdA in Healthcare Play Specialism, previous HPSC/HPSEB, or international equivalent, or equivalent youth worker qualification is required.
• Extensive post‑qualifying experience with young people and young adults in a multidisciplinary team.
• Strong motivation, proactive attitude and excellent organisational skills.
