We currently have an exciting opportunity for a full-time Band 7 Pleural Clinical Nurse Specialist within the Pleural Team, supporting patients and their families in the care and treatment of pleural disease at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. Based y's Hospital, but working across our main 3 sites, the team supports patients having diagnostic and therapeutic pleural procedures, including their pre‑procedural care and work‑up, and aftercare (this includes in‑patient specialist ward care).
Patients may be referred internally or from other hospitals in North West London. We offer a comprehensive in‑service training and induction programme, expect critical thinking and a commitment to self‑directed learning. Internal and external courses are encouraged and supported while an established appraisal system facilitates career development and progression. - To facilitate the safe and expert management of patients with pleural disease alongside the pleural doctors - including day case patients, in‑patients and out‑patients
- To set up and deliver nurse‑led clinics under supervision of pleural consultant
- To provide support, advice and training to doctors, nursing staff, allied health care professionals, patients and their families/carers, and community colleagues with regards to pleural disease and chest drain management
- To assist the pleural team with pleural intervention, with a view to developing competencies in pleural intervention if not already competent
- To oversee the organisation and administration of the pleural caseload and ensure patients are triaged appropriately and work is recorded and coded appropriately
- To contribute to pleural research
