Overview
This is a fixed term 12 months Resident Doctor position (negotiable in length) in Neurological rehabilitation, within the Charing Cross Neurosciences team. The post provides experience in all aspects of caring for a neurological patient, from assessing suitability for rehabilitation in the acute phase to establishing rehabilitation potential and undergoing specialist rehabilitation. The main duties are on the Charing Cross Neurological Rehabilitation Unit (CNRU) and Rapid Access Acute Rehab (RAAR) beds, and involve clerking and managing inpatients on CNRU with complex physical and cognitive impairments.
The post holder will manage acutely unwell patients on the neuro rehab ward and refer to other specialties as required. They will participate in ward rounds, multidisciplinary meetings, diagnosis and prognosis meetings, and goal-setting meetings, and will receive training on assessing new referrals for suitability for rehabilitation. There are opportunities to do outpatient clinics and home visits in the community, with exposure to specialist spasticity management (botulinum toxin injections and medical management of spasticity).
If interested, there are opportunities to sit in on amputee rehabilitation clinics and major trauma rehabilitation ward rounds.
Candidates should have a minimum of 6 months experience working in NHS and/or experience within neuro-rehabilitation. The post involves rotating between stroke, neurology and neurorehabilitation.
