Overview
The Consultant appointed will have responsibility for the care of the patients in their charge and for the proper functioning of the ENT Department. The Consultant will cover absence by arrangement with colleagues and will participate in teaching, research, and ENT Library requirements. The ENT Clinical Directorate offers a high quality, safe and patient-focused service within the Division of Planned Care.
Responsibilities- Care for patients in their charge and ensure the proper functioning of the ENT Department.
- Cover absence by arrangement with colleagues.
- Take an active role in the teaching programme and research activities of the Unit.
- Assist and maintain ENT Library requirements.
- Participate in clinical audit within the ENT Department and the hospital; attend monthly ENT Clinical Management and audit meetings and academic sessions.
- Provide senior cover during daytime on site; cover two tiers of residents on call; be part of a regional overnight on-call rota with the Imperial College ENT department; participate in monthly ENT audits and Head and Neck MDT/clinics at West Middlesex Hospital.
- Work with a team of administrators and fulfill administrative duties with the department.
- Collaborate with the MDT, including Specialist Nurse, Outpatient Team, Audiology and Speech Therapy, and management/Administration staff; maintain good relationships with wider surgical teams, A&E and Acute Medicine to achieve Trust KPIs.
- Help set up and run a newly established clinic-based procedure clinic fully equipped with ENT facilities to relieve pressure on the main operating list and reduce waiting times.
- Liaise with the latest GIRFT ENT guidelines, applying them in day-to-day clinical practice; establish subspecialty interests and streamline services where possible to provide one-stop care for patients.
The ENT Department at the West Middlesex Hospital provides inpatient, day surgery and outpatient services for the surrounding area, serving Richmond, Twickenham, Brentford, Hounslow, Chiswick and adjacent areas. The Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust operates two main hospitals and multiple clinics across London and the South-East.
