Consultant in Emergency Medicine with Paediatric Emergency Medicine

We have been assigned by one of the UK's more prestigious NHS Trusts to help them recruit a Consultant in Emergency Medicine with Paediatric Emergency Medicine on either a Substantive or an NHS Fixed Term basis for 12 months to join their successful A&E department.

Our client's service runs Emergency departments at both our main hospitals. Both departments provide dedicated facilities including:

• Rapid Assessment and Focused Treatment areas
• Resuscitation rooms
• Majors cubicles
• Children's Emergency units
• Emergency Decision units
• Same Day Emergency Care units

Our combined services care for over 180,000 patients per year including over 62,000 children. Both our departments are supported by on‑site Urgent Treatment centres ensuring the Emergency Departments can focus care on patients presenting with emergencies. Both our departments are Trauma Units. Our main sites provide regional neurosurgical and stroke services. In fact, the Paediatric Emergency team at the trust received Pride in Excellence award in November 2015 and special recognition as an inspirational unit from the Well Child national charitable organisation in 2017.

• Undertake direct clinical care of undifferentiated patients presenting to the Emergency Departments
• Act as Team leader co‑ordinating the acute resuscitation or patients presenting to the resuscitation room with major trauma, cardiac arrest and major medical emergencies
• Manage clinical areas of the department over‑seeing the management of all patients in that area and supporting the medical and nursing team members working in that area
• Work in collaboration with the Nurse in charge to ensure the proper running of the Emergency Department, ensure high standards of clinical care, patient safety and patient experience are maintained throughout the department
• Ensure patient care is delivered in line with National Key Performance Indicators for Emergency Care
• Recruit junior medical staff and such other staff as appropriate for the department
• Training of nursing, ancillary and junior medical staff & the development of quality improvement schemes, risk management and clinical audit
