Hybrid working meaning two days in the office and three from home weekly

12-month FTC

Full Time 35 hours

Up to £55,000pa depending on experience

Overall purpose of this role of Senior Policy and Public Affairs Manager

The Senior Policy and Public Affairs Manager is a member of the Public Affairs team in the Policy and Communications Department, with line management responsibility for the Senior Policy and Public Affairs Executive. The core task of this role is to build and protect ICAEW's reputation with key policy and decision makers (Government and Parliament). You will be leading and shaping ICAEW public policy analysis and communication in a way that promotes our brand and influence whilst acting in the public interest.

You will work to identify strategic opportunities or risks to ICAEW and offer advice in line with the operational plan.

Responsibilities
  • Work with the Head of Parliamentary and Government Relations to shape and deliver a forward-looking policy and public affairs strategy aligned to ICAEW's operational plan and long‑term vision for a world of strong economies.
  • Take a leading role in translating organisational objectives into targeted engagement plans that strengthen ICAEW's profile and influence in Westminster, Whitehall and across the UK.
  • Lead team planning and strategic delivery within the Public Affairs team.
  • Manage and develop direct report through mentoring, professional development, and leadership.
  • Develop politically relevant policy content supporting ICAEW's influencing priorities with evidence‑based narratives.
  • Create high‑quality, tailored materials for political audiences that deliver clear value.
  • Ensure timely outputs that enhance ICAEW's reputation as a credible voice in economic debates.
  • Serve as senior contact for political insight across ICAEW, providing strategic advice to leadership.
  • Help align ICAEW's external communications across media, stakeholder and member channels.
  • Lead UK political engagement strategy, managing relationships with MPs, Ministers, and civil servants.
  • Ensure targeted, action‑oriented communications that generate meaningful political interaction.
  • Build network of political contacts supporting ICAEW through parliamentary activities and events.
  • Oversee delivery of briefings, meetings, round tables and events with embedded political intelligence.
  • Represent team in cross‑organizational initiatives contributing to ICAEW's public voice.

Specific duties will vary from time to time in line with the business needs.

Candidate Profile
  • Comprehensive experience in public affairs, parliamentary engagement, or policy development.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of UK politics, policy making processes, and parliamentary procedures.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain senior‑level stakeholder relationships.
  • Strong strategic experience operating at a senior management level within relevant industry.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience drafting briefings and policy outputs.
  • Political judgement and ability to navigate complex or sensitive issues.
  • Experience advising senior leaders and providing strategic political insight.
  • Relevant education qualification or demonstrable equivalent experience.
