Overview
The Matron role at Harrow School has live‑in responsibility for the boys’ health and welfare and for the smooth running of the House’s domestic arrangements. Matrons help the House Master create a happy and well‑ordered atmosphere, assist with boys’ pastoral and health care, and oversee dress and hygiene standards. The role also includes management of onsite housekeeping and leading a team of cleaners.
The role is open to both male and female applicants.
This role suits a candidate who has experience working with young people and who is highly organised, caring, resilient, flexible, and communicates effectively with a wide range of people. Applicants must accompany boys on hospital visits, so a full driving licence and own car are required.
EnvironmentHarrow School is situated in Harrow on the Hill, north‑west London, and is one of the best‑known schools in the world. Around 840 boys study at Harrow and live in the School’s 12 boarding houses. Applications will be processed as they are received and suitable candidates may be interviewed before the closing date, so early application is advised. - Term time (33 weeks per year) fully residential with four hours off each weekday, one 24‑hour period plus one six‑hour period off per week. Additionally, a number of days must be worked before the beginning of each term and after the end of each term.
- Fixed‑term contract for five years.

Easter 2026. The successful candidate will be required to move into their accommodation and complete some induction activities ahead of this.
