About the role
We are currently recruiting for two Fire Alarm Engineers who will play a key role in safeguarding Thames Water's critical infrastructure. This is your chance to step into a diverse, hands‑on role where no two days are the same – travelling across sites, solving technical challenges, elevating safety standards, and shaping the future of fire alarm installations. With dedicated in‑house training and a clear pathway into a Project Engineer position, this is more than a job – it’s an opportunity to grow, lead, and make a visible impact.
Responsibilities- Carry out fire alarm risk assessments/requirements (HSP 12) upon request across many of Thames Water's sites.
- Lead site visits to assess the quality of contractors' work against all standards.
- Compile and report findings, including photos.
- Advise and scope works with a contractor on resolving problems.
- Carry out site fire alarm assessments/requirements to BS 5839‑1.
- Scope/write specification documents.
- Health & Safety management for your portfolio of projects.
- Assess tenders.
- Financial management.
- Programme management.
- Communication and technical assistance to key stakeholders/customers.
- Ensure all asset data is captured and updated at the end of a project.
- Travel to various sites each week, including journeys up to an approximate 150‑mile round trip.
The role is office or site‑based for up to five days each week. Candidates should be located near our Mogden, Guildford, or Swindon sites, supporting South West London and nearby regions. As this is a mobile role, a full UK driving licence and own vehicle are required, and a monthly car allowance is provided. Working hours are Monday to Friday, 36 hours per week.
Qualifications- Experience with in a commercial and/or technical role.
- FIA BS 5839‑1 Fundamental or equivalent certification in Fire Alarm principles and standards.
- Training or relevant work experience.
- Full UK driving licence and personal transport.
- Ability to work unsupervised and use own initiative to deliver specified outputs.

Benefits- Up to £55,000 per annum, including car allowance.
