Overview
This role focuses on individuals with military experience or who are military spouses/children, bringing them into Amazon’s private sector opportunities. The position is within AWS Infrastructure Services and involves overseeing the operation, maintenance, and safety of the electrical and mechanical infrastructure of Amazon Web Services (AWS) Data Centers.
The successful candidate will work with a diverse team of software, hardware, network, and supply‑chain engineers, security experts, and operations managers to deliver the highest safety and security standards while maintaining capacity at the lowest possible cost.
Key Job Responsibilities- Safety:
Follow and maintain the highest safety standards, encourage a world‑class safety culture, and lead remediation of safety risks/issues with other teams. - Engineering & Facility Operations and Maintenance:
Operate and maintain electrical and mechanical equipment such as UPS, switch gear, circuit breakers, ATS, diesel generators, chillers, HVAC, exhaust fans, VFDs, and transformers; troubleshoot events within internal SLAs. - Monitor equipment:
Take daily operational readings of all mechanical and electrical equipment through routine rounds and log‑taking (temperatures, voltages, currents, etc.). - Supervise contractors who perform servicing or preventive maintenance.
- Manual handling and lifting of equipment may be required.
- Shift work:
Ability to work morning, late, and night shifts. - On‑call rotation to react to off‑duty emergency calls.
- City & Guilds/NVQ Level 3 in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
- Knowledge and experience of mechanical systems (Mechanical, HVAC systems, Controls) or key electrical competencies and theory.
- Motivated, self‑managed individual who demonstrates initiative, proactively seeks solutions, and strives for operational excellence.
- Strong willingness to learn new processes and adapt to rapidly changing operational scenarios with conflicting priorities.
- 2 + years of data center engineering operations experience.
