A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a Mechanical Shift Engineer to join us on a prestigious contract in Fenchurch Street.

Purpose

To carry out PPM, reactive and breakdown works on all mechanical systems within the site, operate and manage all engineering assets to support the business with no unplanned disruptions in the most cost‑effective manner. Manage the reactive works process to ensure requests are responded to and closed in accordance with agreed procedures. Develop management tools to actively report on asset and building performance and make recommendations for improvement.

Key

Tasks and Responsibilities
  • Ensure routine PPM is carried out on all mechanical plant in accordance with site task schedules and asset lists.
  • Complete reactive tasks throughout the building, proactively highlighting areas for improvement; include concessionary stores and fabric‑related items.
  • Remediate plant faults and defects swiftly to maintain plant in serviceable order.
  • Keep suitable spares available for maintenance and reactive works, providing parts inventory and estimated timescales.
  • Maintain the Computer Based Maintenance System (e.g., Concept, Smart Hub) and ensure PPM and reactive tickets are closed with accurate data.
  • Complete all paperwork for reactive and breakdown works and pass it without delay to the contract administrator.
  • Prepare and use Method Statements and Risk Assessments for all tasks to ensure safe working practices.
  • Keep all plant rooms under Smart’s responsibility locked at all times and maintain a clean, tidy condition.
Education and Training
  • Formal training in a mechanical engineering discipline (e.g., HVAC, Plumbing) to City and Guilds Level 3 or NVQ Level 2.
