WSP in the UK & Ireland invites applications for a Senior Overhead Line Engineer (Energy) to lead and supervise design engineers on overhead transmission line projects ranging from 11kV to 400kV. The role involves engineering oversight, technical guidance, stakeholder communication, and collaboration with industry bodies.

• Lead a team of design engineers specialising in Overhead (OHL) Transmission Lines.
• Provide technical evaluations and problem‑solving solutions to team members.
• Prepare comprehensive proposals outlining project scope, timeline, resources, budget, objectives, and goals.
• Offer technical guidance throughout project implementation, statutory planning, and public consultation events.
• Oversee engineering and design activities including PLS‑CADD modelling, line routing, structure analysis, loading trees, design criteria, sag‑tension calculations, conductor & insulator selection, blow‑out, swing‑angle, damper recommendations, clearance reports, and structure spotting.
• Conduct feasibility studies, conductor thermal ratings, and ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.
• Lead studies to identify preferred technical solutions for client presentation.
• Participate in industry working groups (e.g., CIGRE, IEEE).

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related technical discipline, preferably Electrical or Power engineering.
• Experience in overhead line engineering up to 400kV.
• Experience with upgrading projects such as utilisation of High‑Temperature Low‑Sag conductors.
• Proficiency in PLS‑CADD / POLE / TOWER.
• Knowledge of galloping studies, EMF and field effects calculations, wake effect, AC interference for gas pipelines is advantageous.
• Willingness to travel as project requirements dictate.
