Aboutthe role & team
As a member of the Hunterston Project team, you will primarily be responsible for delivering a fully integrated package or packages of equipment to meet the project requirements (spec, quality, cost, schedule, etc.). The ideal candidate will be a logical thinker with the capability to quickly analyse a problem and deliver a practical solution. You will have the ability to pick up new concepts rapidly and work both independently and collaboratively.
The Package Lead will be responsible for integrating and delivering the mechanical technology packages (Generator, Flywheel, Turbine, Compressors) and reporting to the Project Engineering Manager. You will work with a geographically spread and diverse team, interact with multiple contractors, and require a great degree of self‑management and time management.
How you will make an impact- Lead on the design and delivery of the mechanical technology packages as an input to deliver the full Hunterston facilities scope, identifying gaps and working to close them.
- Manage suppliers to ensure delivery is in line with project requirements.
- Work with the Project Interface Manager to manage key interfaces between parties and ensure effective, consistent communication.
- Review vendor technical proposals to ensure they are appropriate and compliant with our requirements, identifying areas for improvement, cost reductions, and increased efficiency.
- Work closely with Project Services to ensure related cost and schedule adherence.
- Collaborate with PSCM on managing contractor performance and developing KPI’s for the area of responsibility.
- Manage any change of scope, addressing design, contractor scope, cost, and schedule issues early and fully documented.
- Work with the Quality Assurance Manager to develop and drive the Quality Management Process for Carrington, ensuring contractor compliance and acceptance of supplied products and services.
- Identify and manage related risks to the scope of work.
- Participate in safety audits, design reviews, subcontractor performance assessments, site readiness reviews, safety risk assessments, HAZIDs, and HAZOPs, ensuring all actions are registered, closed, and signed off.
- Complete and hand over the mechanically complete and pre‑commissioned delivery scope to commissioning/operations, confirming suitability for commissioning and entry into service, with clear guidance on inspection, maintenance, and repair.
- Maintain an open dialogue with the Operations team.
- Manage the delivery of O&M documentation.
- MEng Degree or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering.
- Minimum 3‑5 years’ experience.
- CAD modelling experience (AutoCAD/Brics
CAD). - Microsoft Office proficiency (Excel & Word).
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Sound report writing skills and ability to prepare, comprehend, and communicate engineering and technological documents.
- Good attention to detail.

- Genuine interest in the environment, sustainability, and renewable energy.
- 3D plant CAD modelling experience (CADWorx, PDMS).
- Experience working on projects relating to energy or energy storage industry an advantage.
- Experience in power, industrial gases, oil & gas, or other process industry an advantage.
- Experience in static and rotating equipment an advantage.
- Experience in HSE reviews, such as HAZID and HAZOP an advantage.
- Field experience on construction or operational site an advantage.
