Location: HMP Belmarsh
Salary: From £30,000 + £5,000 London Weighting
Contract: Permanent, full time
Working Environment: Prison based role with full on site delivery
Role OverviewWe are seeking a dedicated and experienced Food Skills Tutor to deliver high quality, practical vocational training to learners at HMP Belmarsh
. In this rewarding position, you will help learners develop industry relevant catering skills, build confidence, and work towards recognised qualifications that support their longer term career aspirations. Working with small groups, you will design structured lessons, lead hands on workshop sessions, and support learners through all stages of their development. Your contribution will play a vital part in rehabilitation, progression and successful learner outcomes within a secure environment.
- Deliver engaging, practical catering lessons and workshop sessions to small groups.
- Develop learners' professional catering skills, food safety knowledge and workplace behaviours.
- Tailor lessons to meet individual learning needs and align delivery with qualification standards.
- Assess learner progress and provide clear, constructive and motivating feedback.
- Maintain accurate records of attendance, assessment outcomes and learner achievement.
- Build a positive, inclusive and supportive learning environment.
- Encourage learners to develop confidence, resilience and employability skills.
- Contribute to the development and review of individual learning plans (ILPs).
- Support learners in preparing for progression opportunities both inside and outside custody.
- Contribute to curriculum development and continuous improvement of delivery materials.
- Uphold safeguarding, equality, diversity and health & safety requirements across all learning activities.
- Work collaboratively with prison staff and education colleagues to ensure effective programme delivery.
- Ensure all teaching, learning and assessment meets internal and awarding body standards.
- Level 2 Catering qualification.
- Strong vocational background with substantial industry experience.
- Experience delivering catering or vocational based training.
- Ability to use a variety of teaching and assessment methods to engage diverse learners.
- Good communication, organisational and interpersonal skills.
- Teaching or assessing qualification (e.g., AET, PTLLS, CAVA).
- Experience delivering training within prison education or alternative learning settings.
- Willingness to work towards a teaching or assessing qualification (full support provided).
