Working at Hackney Sixth Form College means contributing to a supportive and aspirational environment where students are encouraged to achieve their goals. The college is committed to fostering a culture that motivates learners, promotes high standards, and reflects the diversity of the local community. Staff play an active role in guiding students' progress, supporting their wellbeing, and helping them stay focused and engaged in their studies.

It is a professional setting where you can make a meaningful contribution to young people's development while being part of a dedicated and collaborative team. This role centres on delivering high quality teaching and assessment across a wide range of Science and Biology programmes, supporting learners aged 14‑19 as well as adults. It involves teaching from Entry Level up to Level 3, including BTEC Applied Science and T‑Level Science, while contributing to curriculum development that reflects national requirements, community needs, and employer expectations.

The role also includes supporting learners pastorally and academically, and working collaboratively with colleagues and the Senior Curriculum Manager to ensure the continued growth and quality of the Science provision.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver engaging, student‑centred teaching across multiple Science courses at different levels and sites, ensuring high retention, achievement, and progression.
  • Prepare schemes of work, syllabuses, and learning outcomes, and maintain accurate course records in line with quality assurance processes.
  • Provide timely, constructive feedback and offer both group and individual tutorial support to help students maximise their potential.
  • Participate in admissions, enrolment, induction, and ongoing tracking of learners, ensuring a smooth and supportive student journey.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues, employers, and external agencies to support placements, curriculum design, and progression opportunities.
  • Uphold safeguarding, equality, diversity, health and safety, and GDPR responsibilities across all aspects of the role.
  • Contribute to curriculum development and continuous improvement within the Science department.
About the Role

You are a committed and enthusiastic Science educator with a strong grounding in Biology and a passion for helping learners of all ages succeed. You bring a recognised degree in Biology or a related field, alongside a teaching qualification, and you have experience delivering innovative and effective Science teaching. You communicate clearly, work well within a team, and can adapt to changes in curriculum content and teaching methods.

You understand the pastoral needs of diverse learners and can build positive, trusting relationships that support their academic and personal development. You are committed to equality, diversity, safeguarding, and continuous professional growth.
