Outstanding Secondary School in Uxbridge seeks an organised and practical Design Technology graduate or Design Technology specialist to work as a Design Technology Technician, starting in April 2026.

Salary: £21,699 - £31,254

Contract: Permanent, April 2026

As a Design Technology Technician you will help support this aim.

Job Role - Design Technology Technician

Responsible to the Head of Design Technology for the technical service to the Design & Technology Faculty.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure practical needs of teaching staff are met according to school schemes of learning.
  • Work cohesively with a team of Design Technology Technicians.
  • Maintain all Design Technology equipment, ensuring it is well maintained.
  • Stocktake resources and maintain minimum stock levels.
  • Ensure resource room is well organized, accessible and user‑friendly.
  • Keep subject knowledge up‑to‑date and attend relevant training.
  • Support wider school activities such as open days.
  • Attend faculty meetings to brief staff on new equipment or practical ideas.
  • Dispose and arrange for disposal of waste materials.
  • Remain up-to-date with latest health and safety protocols regarding hazardous materials.
  • Maintain stock records and manage orders per department policy.
  • Identify equipment needs and participate in selection of new items.
  • Organise and store equipment in accordance with Borough regulations.
  • Participate in developing practical facilities to meet teaching and learning needs.
  • Maintain and arrange for repair of faculty apparatus and equipment.
  • Liaise with premises staff as appropriate to maintain services and facilities.
  • Prepare apparatus, material and equipment for practical classes.
  • Set up, and occasionally carry out demonstrations.
  • Retrieve and clean apparatus after use.
  • Construct and modify apparatus.
  • Ensure practical requirements of examinations and assessments are met.
  • Maintain satisfactory safety and security standards per school/Borough policy.
  • Perform other technician duties as requested by the Head of Design Technology.
Qualifications and Experience

Graduate or specialist in Design Technology, organized, practical, and capable of maintaining laboratory equipment and stock.
