Role Overview
The Education Academy within Barts Health is expanding in response to the need for increasing numbers of students and trainees, committing to offer the best educational experience for our trainees. It aims to improve education by building an Education Fellow faculty base made up of Specialty Teaching Fellows who contribute to both undergraduate and postgraduate training and support inter‑professional innovations. The Academy works across four dedicated Simulation and Essential Clinical Skills Centres based at Newham University Hospital, Whipps Cross University Hospital, St Bartholomew's and the Royal London.
The successful post holder will develop educational opportunities for Obstetrics and Gynaecology through a wide range of teaching modalities, including simulation‑based training, clinical skills, lectures, teaching clinics and bedside teaching. The role will be based at Whipps Cross Hospital, Newham Hospital and the Royal London, all part of Barts NHS Trust. The post will also involve other teaching programmes, such as undergraduate medical trainees, Foundation Trainees and interdisciplinary simulation training.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and deliver education for Obstetrics and Gynaecology across simulation centres.
- Provide simulation, clinical skills, lectures, teaching clinics and bedside teaching.
- Support undergraduate medical trainees, Foundation trainees and interdisciplinary simulation training.
- Lead or contribute to education QI projects and present work at regional or national meetings.
- Work as part of a supportive multidisciplinary team and collaborate with other education fellows.
- Maintain and promote a structured development programme and support faculty growth.
- ST5–ST7 O&G registrar (or equivalent) with at least five years of accredited basic general obstetrics and gynaecology training.
- Full MRCOG membership and experience working in NHS as a senior registrar.
- Demonstrated interest in medical education and motivation to pursue a consultant career incorporating education or training roles.
- Willingness to strengthen teaching, simulation, leadership, and curriculum design skills.
- Motivation to undertake structured development in a chosen clinical subspecialty.
- Experience and competence in teaching and clinical practice within the NHS.
The contract is a fixed‑term of 12 months, starting October 2026, with a 40:60 split between teaching and service delivery. Forty percent of the time is dedicated to education delivery, and 60 percent to clinical duties. It is a 40 hour week contract with banding to a maximum of 1B. Funding is available to support education qualifications such as a PG Cert in Education or an ILM3 Leadership & Management course.
