Pastoral Support Assistant - PRU - Islington
Full Time | Term Time Only | November 2025 Start Up to £125 per day | Long Term Role (Temp to Perm)
Long Term Futures are working in partnership with a well-regarded Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) in Islington to appoint a dedicated and resilient Pastoral Support Assistant to join their team from October 2025. This is a vital support role working closely with students who present with SEMH needs and challenging behaviour, many of whom have experienced exclusions or trauma. You’ll work alongside behaviour leads, safeguarding staff and teaching colleagues to provide day‑to‑day mentoring, behaviour intervention and emotional support.
This is a fantastic long‑term opportunity for someone with aspirations of becoming a Behaviour Lead, Head of Year or Pastoral Manager, offering real career progression within alternative provision.
- Provide consistent support to students with SEMH and behavioural needs
- Deliver 1:1 and small group mentoring interventions
- Support with de‑escalation, behaviour plans and positive routines
- Liaise with parents/carers, Heads of Centre and external agencies
- Assist in reintegration, transitions and daily attendance monitoring
- Contribute to a trauma‑informed, restorative school culture
- Experience supporting young people with challenging behaviour or SEMH needs
- A calm, assertive and non‑judgemental approach
- Confidence working in high‑pressure or emotionally demanding environments
- Strong communication and relationship‑building skills
- Background in PRU, youth work, inclusion or pastoral care is highly desirable
Islington, North London. Accessible via Finsbury Park, Archway and Highbury & Islington stations. Bus routes include: 4, 19, 263, W7. Easily commutable from Camden, Haringey and Hackney.
