Are you an enthusiastic and dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant ready to make a significant impact? This is a brilliant opportunity to join a highly-regarded, thriving primary school in the Wandsworth borough.

You will provide crucial 1:1 support to a specific pupil with social, emotional, and mental health needs within a mainstream primary setting. This is an immediate, long-term placement with a strong view to becoming a secured, permanent role.

At Long Term Futures, we partner with a forward-thinking primary school in Wandsworth that places student well-being at the heart of its ethos. The school is committed to creating an inclusive environment where all children can succeed.

You will collaborate closely with the class teacher, SENCo, and other pastoral staff, assisting in the delivery of a tailored curriculum that encourages the pupil to develop coping strategies and achieve their academic potential.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide targeted support specifically aligned with the pupil's SEMH support plan, including managing anxiety, emotional regulation, and social communication.
  • Facilitate positive engagement in classroom activities, adapting tasks and resources to meet the pupil's individual pace and learning style.
  • Effectively implement positive reinforcement and established behaviour management strategies consistently.
  • Maintain clear, consistent communication and collaboration with the class teacher, SENCo, and parents/carers regarding the pupil's progress.
Essential Criteria :
  • Proven experience in supporting primary-aged children with needs relating to social, emotional, or mental health.
  • A calm, resilient, and proactive disposition when addressing challenging behaviours or emotional distress.
  • Familiarity with successful support methodologies for SEMH, such as emotional literacy, de‑escalation, or trauma‑informed practice.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills suitable for professional liaison within the school setting.
What We Can

Offer:
  • A stable, long‑term engagement with a genuine pathway to a permanent contract directly with the school.
  • Guaranteed full‑time hours within one school environment – removing the unpredictability of supply work.
  • Access to free CPD training, including certified courses on Understanding Challenging Behaviour and Child Mental Health.
  • A dedicated, experienced consultant to assist you throughout your placement.
Application Steps:
  • Submit your CV.
  • Have an introductory discussion about the role with Jack at Long Term Futures.
  • Finalise Registration and compliance (Right to Work, DBS, references).
  • Complete a short video interview on pupil safeguarding and professional scenarios.
  • Attend a trial day or formal interview to meet the school team.
  • Upon success, begin your rewarding new role!
