Overview

Are you looking for an opportunity to work in a lively, supportive, innovative department with excellent training and opportunities to explore your interests? UCLH is recruiting a Clinical Fellow in TYA Haematology/Oncology (registrar/ST4+ equivalent) to commence in March 2026 for 12 months. The post comprises 80% clinical activity and 20% for special interest activities, including disease-focused research, service development projects, leadership and management skills training, and diagnostics lab attachments.

The post is based in the teenage and young adult cancer service at registrar/ST4+ level and includes the clinical components of PED, inpatient wards and outpatient clinics. Baseline working hours are 8.30am to 5pm, Monday to Friday, with an on-call out-of-hours commitment contributing to a middle grade rota (late shifts, long days and nights).

Responsibilities
  • Contribute to the out of hours rota covering general paediatrics, including the emergency department.
  • Provide on-site leadership and supervision of SHOs in paediatrics and emergency medicine when covering the ED.
  • Manage day-to-day care of in-patients on the paediatric and young people s units during on-call commitments, including regular ward rounds and decision making, and communication with nursing staff and other health professionals.
  • Teach medical students informally at the bedside and in groups, and may be asked to teach nursing staff.
  • Engage in leadership and management opportunities within the role, including divisional priorities, mentoring, coaching, and attendance at strategic meetings (e.g., CYP Leadership meeting, CYP Steering Board, Senior Directors meeting).
  • Develop expertise in subspecialities such as acute and chronic leukaemia, Hodgkin and non-Hodgkin lymphomas, non-malignant haematology, neuro-oncology, sarcomas, rare tumours, bone marrow transplant (autologous and allogeneic), CAR T cells therapy, proton beam therapy, and lab diagnostics.
Qualifications and Requirements
  • Eligibility for full GMC registration at the time of appointment and current licence to practise. Full GMC Registration is required. NB:
    Non-UK trained doctors must be on the GMC register by the date of interview.
