$15.70 to $20.20 per hour
Position Summary:
Under the close supervision of the Art Camp Instructor, this position is responsible for assisting with daily preparation, implementation, and clean-up of indoor and outdoor art camp activities; and maintaining an appropriate and safe recreational environment for the children. This position will work directly with children and parents on a daily basis.
Essential Duties:
* Responsible for the care and safety of the children; ensuring that children are in a safe environment at all times (supervises area effectively).
* Assist with preparation of materials and equipment at different locations throughout the district; set up and take down.
* Assist with implementation of developmentally appropriate activities for children; leads, assists, and engages in active and sedentary indoor and outdoor lessons, games and activities with the children and serves as a role model participant.
* Assist instructor in presenting art to students by showing examples of selected art, provide students with tools and materials to produce their own art, assist instructor in teaching each student how to use tools and materials properly.
* Assist in daily set-up and delivery of program activities, snacks, and restroom routines; supervises play; maintains a clean and orderly environment; safeguards program supplies and materials.
* Use positive behavior reinforcement and developmentally appropriate guidance techniques to encourage appropriate behavior, informs supervisor if assistance is needed with behavior management, provides documentation of inappropriate behavior.
* Develops and maintains a positive work relationship with program participants, parents of children, and staff.
* Assists instructor in distributing, completing, and updating all paperwork necessary to conduct the Art Camp Program, including emergency contact information and attendance rosters. Collect forms and information from parents/guardians as required by the program; maintain confidentiality of child and parent information.
* Maintains a positive program image by being prepared, creative and energized when assisting.
* Communicate with parents about children's daily activities, informs parents of program activities, procedures and upcoming events, and serves as a program liaison.
* Recognize emergency and dangerous situations by reacting quickly and calmly. Completes accident, incident, and behavior reports.
* Attend and participate in staff meetings, trainings, and site events as requested.
* Attend work on a regular, reliable and punctual basis; subs for co-workers when available; is responsible for securing substitutes for shifts unable to work.

Education and/or
Experience:
* Must be at least sixteen (16) years of age.
* Experience working with children is preferred.
Licenses, Certifications, and Other Requirements:
* Current certifications in CPR and First Aid preferred.
* Successfully complete all necessary trainings within thirty (30) days of employment.
Necessary
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
* Requires the ability to communicate verbally and in writing with both children and adults.
* Must have ability to visually and audibly supervise children in a variety of situations.
* Must be highly motivated and take direction well with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
* Knowledge of arts programming.
* Ability to provide superior customer service and resolve customer complaints and escalated problems.
* Must be knowledgeable of positive interaction techniques with children, students and their parents, and staff. Demonstrates use of these techniques in all interactions.
* Must be able to work with students in a constructive and caring manner.
* Demonstrates the knowledge and ability to teach patrons how to safely and properly use all supplies, tools and equipment in accordance with established studio guidelines
Material and Equipment Used:
This position regularly uses a phone, computer, printer, and other common office equipment. Also regularly uses and operates supplies and equipment. required for specific course curriculum (e.g art tools, art supplies, clay, etc.). .
Working Environment:
This position requires work in a variety of settings including working indoors and outdoors subject to variable weather conditions, ecosystems, and landscape. Regularly works with school age children in busy recreation facility environment subject to continuous interruptions and loud background noises.
