Facilitate learning and teaching in an integrated, inclusive preschool classroom (ages 6 weeks to 6 years); plan and administer small and large group instruction. Form and implement student educational programs; support and follow through with individual educational goals and accommodations. Perform daily administrative functions including preparing class materials, disinfecting room and toys, writing student progress reports, attending professional development meetings, and performing other related duties.
Communicate with school staff and/or student guardians regarding student progress; conduct parent conferences. Tend to the personal needs of students including lifting, diapering, and custodial/toilet training.
- Plan, implement, and monitor each student’s educational programs, including a full-day, year-round, developmentally appropriate curriculum with weekly themes and lesson plans; ensure inclusion of theme-related materials and rotation of toys and equipment.
- Supervise students in the classroom; facilitate small and large instructional group activities; maintain a safe, responsive, nurturing, and orderly environment with accessible, age-appropriate materials.
- Supervise, evaluate, and maintain records for program employees; supervise teacher assistants and/or para-educators, delegate work, provide training, and support professional growth opportunities.
- Attend and participate in meetings related to early childhood students’ learning plans; collaborate with special education service providers and follow through with goals and accommodations.
- Oversee day-to-day classroom operations including materials prep, discipline, parent communications, attendance, progress notes, and sanitation practices.
- Supervise children on the playground; plan and implement meaningful activities for large motor development; respond to emergencies and injuries safely.
- Write student progress reports and conduct parent conferences; communicate with guardians and district special educators.
- Complete Inter-Rater Reliability and collect student data for TS GOLD; meet deadlines for state-mandated checkpoints; develop and maintain an assessment portfolio for each child.
- Create classroom supply lists; participate in professional development trainings.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Associate degree or vocational training certification.
- Early childhood education/preschool teacher, instructor, or educational assistant/para experience.
- Basic knowledge of typical office equipment and basic word processing skills; strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to follow all Federal and State licensing rules and regulations; ability to work independently and collaboratively; ability to work with an interdisciplinary special education team.
- Ability to implement behavior modification techniques and manage volatile or stressful situations; ability to maintain confidentiality; ability to work one-on-one and in small groups with students.
- Criminal background check and fingerprinting required for hire.
All certifications, licenses, and registrations must be valid and unexpired.
- Colorado Department of Human Services Early Childhood Teacher certification.
- Colorado Shines PDIS 3.0 Level 2.
- All mandated Colorado Department of Human Services and Early Childhood Department trainings and certifications.
- Associate of Arts degree in Early Childhood Education or equivalent.
- Two (2) years of preschool teaching experience.
- Experience working with diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
- Heavy physical effort; lifting up to 50 pounds.
- Frequent bending, squatting, reaching, and climbing; eye/hand coordination; visual concentration.
- Concentrated reading/writing/mathematics; prolonged standing and walking.
- Occasional lifting, pulling, and/or pushing; may assist students with custodial needs (feeding, toilet).
- May work outdoors when monitoring student activities; normal school environment with potential behavioral outbursts.
