Hourly Wage: New Hire: $22.09
· 90 days: $23.17
· 1 year: $24.38
· 2 years: $25.71
· 3 years: $27.14
- Safely drives a county-operated van or bus along scheduled or demand-response routes in urban and rural areas.
- Assists passengers in boarding and disembarking, including operating wheelchair lifts and securing mobility devices.
- Provides door-to-door support including walking clients to and from their home or destination, carrying groceries or packages when needed.
- Confirms trip destinations with passengers and assists with fare collection or token processing.
- Engages passengers in conversation to reduce isolation and ensure a supportive and friendly ride experience.
- Conducts daily pre-trip inspections and reports any issues to ensure vehicle safety and compliance.
- Maintains contact with dispatch via radio or mobile communication for schedule updates and emergencies.
- Cleans and maintains the interior and exterior of the vehicle, including windows, floors, and securement equipment.
- Assists in emergency response and evacuation situations under guidance of emergency management officials.
- Records ridership and vehicle maintenance data, including fuel usage, and participates in schedule review and conflict resolution with dispatch staff.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- One (1) year of experience in paid driving, customer service, or human services.
- Experience driving trucks/vans/buses strongly preferred.
- Valid State of Iowa Commercial Driver's License Class C with air brake and passenger endorsements required within six (6) months of transfer or hire into the position.
