Position: Youth Specialist (Part-time) Evenings

Reports to: 2nd Shift Supervisor

Location: Cedar Rapids, IA

Hours: Saturday-Tuesday 5:00pm-11:30pm

Overview of the role

Supervise youth in the facility during day-to-day activities, providing safety and security, and role modeling appropriate behaviors. Provide crisis stabilization, processing, and de-escalation of youth up to and including physical restraint (training provided and required to attend). Complete daily documentation. Responsible for passing medication (Medication Manager training is available and required to attend). Assist with phone coverage and answering in a timely and professional manner;

provide transportation for youth to and from activities.

Schedule

Saturday 5:00-11:30pm
Sunday 5:00-11:30pm
Monday 5:00-11:30pm
Tuesday 5:00-11:30pm

What you’ll do

  • Complete daily documentation for clients.
  • Responsible for passing medication (Medication Manager training is available for candidates).
  • Ability to provide crisis stabilization, processing, and de-escalation of youth up to and including physical restraint.
  • Assisting with phone coverage and answering in a timely and professional manner.
What you need
  • High school diploma or equivalent; 2 years’ experience in human services.
  • Associates degree with 1 year’s experience in human services.
  • Bachelor’s degree with 1 year of experience in human services.
  • Comfort using basic computer software.
  • Basic typing and data entry skills.
  • Valid driver’s license and be insurable by the agency auto insurance policy.
  • Pass all background checks completed by Foundation 2 Crisis Services.
  • Submit copy of college degree or transcript as required by licensure for personnel file.
  • Live within 50 miles of Cedar Rapids, IA.
  • Be at least 21 years of age.
  • Successfully complete the required trainings within the required time periods.
  • Complete a physical exam prior to the beginning of employment and every three (3) years thereafter.
  • Be free of communicable diseases as determined by a physician.
  • Education or training in trauma-informed care is preferred.
  • Knowledge/experience working in the mental health, substance use, and/or problem gambling field preferred.
  • Experience working with and compassion for at-risk youth preferred.
  • Experience in conflict resolution and de-escalation techniques preferred.
  • Ability to clearly communicate emotional support to people in crisis preferred.
