Overview
At Tel Com Construction, the Technician Field Make Ready Inspector is responsible for performing site assessments, quality control inspections, and documentation of Outside Plant (OSP) telecommunications infrastructure to ensure compliance with engineering specifications, safety standards, and client requirements. This role is critical in the pre‑construction ("Make Ready") phase, preparing sites for the next phase of work, as well as final quality checks on completed projects.

- Field Inspection & Quality Control:
- Perform comprehensive field inspections of OSP infrastructure, including aerial, buried, and underground fiber/copper networks, to ensure all elements meet construction, safety, and quality standards.
- Conduct pre‑construction site surveys to identify potential issues, obstructions, and necessary "Make Ready" work prior to construction or splicing teams being deployed.
- Verify and document adherence to engineering prints, plans, and technical specifications for all installation activities.
- Documentation and Reporting:
- Accurately record detailed field notes, photographs, and measurements of existing and proposed facilities.
- Generate precise inspection reports, documenting all findings, including defects, non‑compliance issues, and required corrective actions (redlines).
- Ensure all project documentation and close‑out packages are complete, accurate, and submitted in a timely manner.
- Troubleshooting and Issue Resolution:
- Diagnose and troubleshoot technical problems related to plant readiness and construction quality.
- Collaborate with field crews, supervisors, and engineering teams to resolve issues identified during the inspection process.
- Safety and Compliance:
- Promote and enforce all company safety policies and procedures at job sites.
- Ensure utility locating, shoring, and traffic control procedures are in full compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Experience:
3+ years in telecommunications OSP construction, installation, maintenance, or inspection (fiber, coax, copper). - Technical Proficiency:
- Strong ability to read and interpret construction blueprints, network diagrams, and GIS maps.
- Working knowledge of OSP construction techniques, practices, and materials for aerial and underground utilities.
- Proficiency with measurement tools, testing equipment, and electronic devices (e.g., tablet, GPS) for field data collection.
- Attributes:
- Acute attention to detail and a commitment to quality control.
- Excellent problem‑solving and critical‑thinking skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills for professional interaction with field crews, clients, and subcontractors.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and manage a flexible daily schedule with frequent travel.
- Physical Requirements:
Ability to perform physically demanding work outdoors in various weather conditions and environments. - License:
Valid Driver's License required.
