Entry-Level Fiber Tester – DATA CENTERS
Nationwide Travel Role - based out of Cedar Rapids, IA
Starting Pay: $20/hr
Position OverviewThe Entry‑Level Fiber Tester supports field operations by performing quality and performance testing on newly installed or repaired fiber‑optic infrastructure. You will be part of a traveling field crew working on large-scale builds, aerial/underground fiber construction, and FTTH deployments nationwide. No prior fiber experience is required — we will train motivated candidates who want to build a technical career.
Key Responsibilities- Perform fiber‑optic testing using tools such as OTDR, power meters, and visual fault locators (training provided).
- Assist with documenting test results, cable routes, loss measurements, and project notes.
- Support field crews working on fiber installation, splicing, jetting, and construction projects (services CNC commonly provides).
- Troubleshoot basic signal or continuity issues under guidance from senior technicians.
- Follow all safety procedures related to fiber handling, equipment use, and jobsite operations.
- Maintain equipment cleanliness and testing accuracy.
- Work cooperatively with crews during overnight travel deployments lasting 10 days or more.
- Represent CNC professionally while working on customer sites.
- Minimum 6 days per week
- 10‑hour shifts (60+ hour weeks common) – with voluntary unlimited overtime
- Overnight travel is required — crews are deployed for 10‑day minimum rotations
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to designated departure locations
- Ability to travel for extended periods (10+ days at a time)
- Willingness to work long shifts in varying outdoor conditions
- Mechanical or technical aptitude
- Ability to lift 50 lbs and work on your feet for extended periods
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow procedures
- Experience in telecom, construction, low‑voltage, cable installation, or other skilled trades
- Basic understanding of networking, wiring, or field service work
- Any relevant certifications (FOA, ETA, Network+, etc.) — but not required
- Paid hotels/Air BNBs during deployments
- $35/day meal per diem
- Opportunities for advancement into splicing, construction, aerial, jetting, or leadership roles

This is a Permanent position based out of Cedar Rapids, IA.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $41600.00 - $52000.00/yr.
