Cable Technician

We are seeking an entry-level Cable Technician to support a large-scale data center construction project. This role involves installing, routing, terminating, and testing low-voltage cabling in an active construction environment. Candidates should be reliable, coachable, and comfortable working with hand tools, ladders, and construction documentation such as blueprints.

Key Responsibilities

+ Install work-area outlets for floor monuments, modular furniture, and wall-mounted systems.

+ Pull and route cable using fish tape and other methods through walls and modular furniture.

+ Perform pre-termination tasks: organizing, dressing, measuring, labeling, and prepping cables.

+ Properly suspend and support cable using cable trays, J-hooks, D-rings, bridal rings, and trapeze systems.

+ Build telecom closets, including mounting backboards, racks, patch panels, fiber hardware, and grounding equipment.

+ Execute fire-stopping procedures, install sleeves, and pull cable through penetrations and pathways.

+ Terminate low-voltage devices and support ongoing installation tasks as assigned.

Top Skills & Experience

+ Telecom or structured cabling experience (installing cable trays, pulling cable/fiber, punch downs, terminations).

+ Experience using hand and power tools.

+ General construction experience and the ability to follow blueprints.

+ Strong reliability, willingness to learn, and ability to work independently or with a team.

Additional Requirements

+ Ability to work in indoor/outdoor construction environments.

+ Ability to lift 50 lbs and move up to 75 lbs.

+ Comfortable working at heights, on ladders, and in confined spaces.

+ Ability to distinguish cable colors, read small print, and recognize audible signals.

+ Positive attitude, professionalism, and alignment with project safety and process standards.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Cedar Rapids, IA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $23.00/hr.
