Purpose
Typical assignments of pre‑apprentices may include, but are not limited to, material handling, loading and unloading, set‑up, staging, clean‑up and site organization. These tasks must be performed under the direct supervision of a journeyman. Additionally, a pre‑apprentice may perform entry‑level work with or without hand tools at the direction of his or her supervising journeyman. Pre‑apprentices are traditionally not permitted to operate heavy equipment, welders, or work on energized electrical work or perform layout or design services.
Performs related work as required.
The following duties are typical for this job. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all‑inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
- All employees are responsible for following safety rules and common sense safety practices at all times
- Clean work area (pick up trash, sweep, organize) and restock supplies and materials
- Deliver tools, materials or equipment
- Stage materials
- Clean company vehicles
- Accurate daily time and equipment reporting
- High school graduate or GED
- Trade related math
- Ability to read a tape measure
- Valid driver’s license with good driving record
- Must be willing to sign up as an entry level helper with one of our union affiliates
- Successful passing of drug test and background investigation as a contingency for employment
- Take directions from journeyman and follow through with given tasks
- Must be dependable—show up and ready to work on time
- Need to be able to communicate with leaders and co‑workers
- Adhere to all company and customer safety policies
- Ability to work at heights (on scaffolds, lifts, ladders, on the edge of a roof, etc.)
- Ability to work in confined spaces (ex: inside tanks or vaults)
- Exposure to weather, heat, cold
- Wet & or humid
- Vibration
- Heights, confined space, trenches
- Exposure to dust/fumes
- Noise intensity—Loud
- Proximity to moving mechanical parts
- Exposure to electrical shock
- Exposure to toxic/caustic chemicals
- Work in areas with heavy equipment present
- Work with heavy materials overhead
- May be expected to work with and handle a variety of tools and equipment
