Food Service Assistant – Nixon (15034)

Cedar Rapids Community School District

Position:
Nine‑month part‑time role, 4.0 hours daily (9:30 am‑1:30 pm). Rate: $15.75/hour
. Benefits:
All district benefits in accordance with work agreement.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform general work connected with the operation of food service, including food preparation and handling as assigned.
  • Assist with cooking as necessary.
  • Wash and dry pots, pans, trays, and silverware by approved methods.
  • Serve breakfast and lunch, verifying each reimbursable meal was served.
  • Process daily tally counts for claim reimbursement and serve as POS.
  • Assist with general clean‑up duties.
  • Maintain open, positive communication with all people served by the Food & Nutrition Department.
  • Attend work as scheduled, arriving on time and fully prepared.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Essential Skills and Aptitudes
  • Knowledge of school food service program, nutritional standards, and sanitation.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships to support a team atmosphere.
  • Strong communication skills and customer service orientation.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Availability to work flexible hours.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Kitchen‑related experience preferred.
Physical Demands

Frequent standing, walking, using hands and fingers to handle objects, speaking and hearing. Must squat, stoop, kneel, reach above the head and forward 0–24 inches (occasionally up to 36 inches). Frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds within 0–12 feet (occasionally up to 20 feet). Requires use of hand strength to grasp items, and may push/pull carts and food‑preparation equipment. Vision required for close work, color recognition, and focus adjustment while preparing food.

Working

Environment

The work environment is consistently above average noise, higher temperatures, damp floors, and requires handling of known food allergens. Employees must work in various kitchen and cafeteria areas throughout the day.

Benefits and Work Schedule

Summer off. Nights and weekends off. Work the same schedule as your kids’ school schedule. Home when kids are home. Never take work home with you. 9‑month position. Part‑time schedule 9:30 am–1:30 pm, 4.0 hours daily.
