Job Overview
Job Description This position is with the Iowa Department of Corrections – Sixth District. The sixth district encompasses 6 counties in Iowa (Jones, Johnson, Linn, Iowa, Tama and Benton).

Responsibilities- Preparing food items for 280 meals per day.
- Adheres to food nutritional value per the recommended daily food allowance.
- Operates commercial kitchen equipment to include skillets, ovens, warming trays, fryers, etc.
- Maintains sanitary standards for food service operations through visual observation, verbal instruction and/or written disciplinary measures.
- Maintains controls of kitchen tools, equipment and food supplies for food preparation to maintain security procedures.
- Monitors food temperatures to ensure that food is served or stored at safely.
- Transports meals to clients residing at other locations.
- Verifies inventory and uses the oldest food first.
- Maintains Serv Safe certification and completes training for recertification as required.

SHIFT: 8:45am – 4:45pm Saturday and Sunday at the Hope House in Coralville, IA
9:45am – 5:45pm Monday, Tuesday and Friday at the Hinzman Center in Cedar Rapids, IA

Experience equal to two years of full-time work in quantity food production in a commercial, military, hospital or institutional setting;
OR
successful completion of a military, vocational or community college program in commercial cooking and one year of qualifying experience;
OR
employees with current continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes experience equal to six months of full-time experience as a Cook 1.
