Position: Manager, Pharmacy Clinical Operations (Inpatient and Ambulatory Areas of Focus)

We are seeking dedicated and experienced full-time pharmacy managers to lead and support clinical pharmacy services at Mercy Medical Center. The pharmacy managers will work in collaboration with two other pharmacy managers and will provide oversight of pharmacy employees, develop and implement clinical programs, collaborate with other healthcare professionals, and ensure safe, effective, and cost-efficient medication use. In addition to oversight, this position will ensure appropriate formulary management and use of evidence-based guidelines, serve as a drug information resource for the interprofessional team, and lead initiatives to improve medication safety and regulatory adherence.

Job Duties:

  • Stays abreast with applicable federal and state laws and professional standards of practice; monitors and assures compliance with inpatient and outpatient measures.
  • Demonstrates fiscal accountability for department resources and the ability to achieve expected quality outcomes within the allocated resources while using benchmarking, data, and evidence-based medicine to lower
  • Determines feasibility of new programs and services and develops new and improved services within assigned area through constant evaluation and tests of change.
  • Ensures that the Pharmacy Department delivers quality and timely services by maintaining an orderly workflow for all medication use systems.
  • Analyzes and implements quality improvement measures for improving organizational and pharmacy department
  • Participates in tracking medication safety events and develops/implements improved procedures to minimize/prevent medication errors and to improve medication
  • Assumes a lead role in developing the Medication Management (Pharmacy and Therapeutics) Committee agenda and research Establishes and monitors medication use and expense benchmarks, providing input on changing drug expense trends and coordinating Medication Use Evaluations, as needed.
  • Assists with the coordination of medication shortages. Conducts operational and therapeutic assessments, medication shortage impact analysis, and establishes, communicate, and implements the final
  • Sustains professional competence and promotes development through participation in in-services, workshops, seminars, and professional organizations.
  • Supports educational mission through didactic and/or experiential training of pharmacy students, interns, and residents.
  • Manages human resource-related issues (scheduling, hiring, promotion, training, competency assessment and addressing personnel and performance issues) for direct reports and other staff
  • Works with staff on an ongoing basis to improve performance, guiding and coaching staff to identify solutions. Completes performance evaluations and provides feedback to direct
  • Promotes effective working relations and works effectively as part of a team inter- and intra-departmentally to facilitate the department's ability to meet its goals
  • Develops, approves, interprets, and enforces hospital, departmental, and medication management policies, procedures, and standards to achieve departmental

1) Graduate of an ACPE accredited College of Pharmacy required.
2) Completion of ASHP accredited PGY-2 Health-System Pharmacy Administration residency highly preferred.
3) Advanced degree (MHA, MBA, MS) preferred.
4) Clinical and operational pharmacy experience (3 years) in a hospital setting or PGY1 preferred. Mercy is an EEO employer.

Current Pharmacist Licensure in the State of Iowa or eligible for Iowa Board of Pharmacy pharmacist licensure. Employment is contingent upon being licensed by the Iowa Board of Pharmacy by start date required.

Iowa Dependent Adult Abuse and Iowa Child Abuse Mandatory Reporter training required prior to start date.
