The Project Engineer supports the planning, coordination, and technical execution of electrical construction projects from preconstruction through closeout across multiple geographic locations. Working under the direction of the Senior Project Manager, this role assists with project documentation, scheduling, and field coordination to ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and in compliance with company standards, contract requirements, and engineering specifications.

Serving as a key link between engineering, project management, and field operations, the Traveling Project Engineer focuses on technical execution, constructability, and quality to support efficient project delivery. This role requires frequent travel and close collaboration with field leadership, subcontractors, and project stakeholders to maintain project organization, ensure alignment with plans and specifications, and drive successful project outcomes.

Essential Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities Tasks may include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Review and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and project documents to ensure alignment with scope and requirements
  • Provide technical support to field teams, helping ensure work is performed in accordance with plans, specifications, and safety standards
  • Conduct site visits, inspections, and testing to verify quality, progress, and compliance with project requirements
  • Support quality control processes and ensure adherence to company standards, codes, and regulatory requirements
  • Assist with coordination between project managers, field leadership, designers, suppliers, and subcontractors
  • Prepare and manage project documentation, including RFIs, submittals, change orders, and as-built drawings
  • Identify and help resolve technical issues and field challenges in a timely and effective manner
  • Track project progress and assist with reporting on schedules, milestones, and deliverables
  • Support procurement activities by reviewing materials, equipment, and vendor requirements
  • Assist in maintaining project records, logs, and compliance documentation

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and technical documents
  • Strong organizational and documentation management skills

  • Attention to detail and accuracy
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and familiar with construction software such as Procore, Bluebeam, or Autodesk.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment
  • Team‑oriented with a proactive approach

Work Environment/Physical Demands/Position Type and Expected Work Time Work Environment:
  • Combination of office and field environments
  • Work is performed primarily on active construction sites with ongoing electrical and general construction activities
  • Regular exposure to outdoor weather conditions, including heat, cold, wind, rain, and humidity
  • Exposure to typical construction site conditions such as noise, dust, vibration, and moving equipment
  • May work near energized equipment, elevated work areas, excavations, and confined or restricted spaces in compliance with OSHA safety procedures
  • Occasional exposure to fumes, airborne particles, and other environmental conditions common to construction sites
  • Work will require travel between multiple project sites
Physical Requirements:
  • Frequently walk active construction sites, including uneven surfaces and unfinished structures
  • Occasionally climb stairs, ladders, or temporary access systems in compliance with OSHA requirements
  • Ability to stand, bend, kneel, crouch, or reach as necessary to observe work activities and inspect conditions
  • Ability to communicate effectively with employees and subcontractors in person and over the phone or radio
  • Occasionally lift, carry, or move materials or equipment weighing up to 25 pounds, with or without assistance
