The Electrical Commissioning Engineer L3 is responsible for Level 3, 4 and 5 commissioning of base building systems and components of a Data Center environment. This role will oversee, document, and track various aspects of commissioning activities, including testing and validation of connectivity, network infrastructure, security, life safety, other building subsystems and finishes, transformers, electrical switch gear, UPS, STS, PDU, and electrical distribution equipment.

The position may require nights and/or weekends.

Estimated 75%+ travel to other sites around the U.S.

Responsibilities
  • Assist in all site construction activity and installations in coordination with QTS Development Team and external resources to ensure system design, installation, and testing adhere to operational standards.
  • Conduct thorough commissioning activities ensuring all systems are installed, tested, and validated according to industry standards and client specifications.
  • Monitor issues during the commissioning process, working closely with the project team to resolve technical challenges and provide feedback to program management to drive continuous improvement.
  • Create and review detailed commissioning documentation, including test procedures, reports, and as‑built documentation.
  • Witness testing of all equipment, validate sequence of operations, and ensure receipt of all operational documentation.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams including design engineers, project managers, contractors, commissioning agents, and facilities operations to integrate systems without impacting operations.
  • Implement quality control measures to meet highest standards during build and commissioning, adhering to regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
  • Mentor junior Commissioning Engineers and act as subject‑matter expert for the team.
Basic Qualifications
  • Seven to ten years of technical training, military training, or equivalent workplace experience.
  • Extensive background in building maintenance, network, telecommunications, fire detection/suppression, electrical distribution systems, and emergency power systems.
  • Willingness to travel to other Data Center locations.
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in data center engineering, commissioning, project management, or equivalent.
  • Basic understanding of mechanical systems used in a data center.
  • Extensive understanding of electrical systems used in a data center.
  • Experience developing and reviewing commissioning documentation.
  • Leadership experience mentoring junior commissioning engineers.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Advanced ability to analyze operations of various systems, identify problems and take corrective action.
  • Advanced knowledge of equipment/building operations and maintenance, including elevators, finishes, single line drawings, critical scripted work, and sequence of operations.
  • Ability to acquire and apply job‑related knowledge within set guidelines.
  • Ability to develop solutions and create technical plans.
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal skills.
  • Teamwork skills.
  • Computer skills and familiarity with MS Office, Outlook, and web‑based applications.
  • Physical requirements:

    frequent typing, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, bending, reaching, lifting up to 50 lbs.
