Position Title: Commissioning Field Technician III
Position Location: Hybrid – Cedar Rapids, IA. Must be located near a major airport.
Travel Requirements: Up to 75% domestic travel; relocation may be considered for long-term project needs. Must have a valid driver’s license and ability to rent vehicles.
Job Summary
The Commissioning Field Technician III is a technical commissioning role responsible for executing tests, troubleshooting equipment, and supporting commissioning plans. This position builds upon the foundation developed in our Commissioning Field Technician I and II positions, requiring an increased level of independent work and technical problem-solving.
The Commissioning Field Technician III will receive general instructions on routine work and detailed instructions on new projects or assignments. May work independently, consistently exercising discretion and independent judgment on individual work, or may work under immediate supervision. May serve as lead on routine projects of limited scope.
This person will communicate and operate in line with organizational goals and values, as well as departmental objectives.
ResponsibilitiesEssential Functions
- Participate in factory witness testing
- Observe startup activities
- Use technical equipment to perform testing
- Perform functional testing of equipment and electrical, mechanical and controls systems
- Assist in the development of commissioning plans
- Prepare pre-functional checklists
- Prepare functional performance test scripts
- Review shop drawings and submittals
- Review sequence of operations
- Assist in commissioning focused design reviews
- Prepare project progress reports for internal and external stakeholders
- Assist in preparation and contribute to final commissioning report
- Manage personal hours using company tools
- Leverage AI-enabled and digital tools to enhance efficiency, reduce manual effort, and support high-quality work output
- Identify opportunities to improve processes and demonstrate a continuous learning mindset, seeking out new technologies, skills, and methods that elevate individual and team performance
- Adapt to emerging technologies and evolving digital workflows, actively supporting the integration and adoption of innovative tools across the organization
Position Requirements (Intermediate level, unless noted)
- Knowledge of electrical, mechanical and controls system principles
- Proficient with MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams) and strong organizational skills for file management
- Skilled in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail
- Ability to leverage AI and emerging technologies to streamline workflows, optimize operational processes, and contribute to company-wide innovation
- Ability to work effectively in a remote environment through clear communication, self-motivation, and proactive, resourceful work habits
- Ability to follow company and site safety requirements
- Ability to analyze and prepare documents, reports and correspondence
- Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form (technical and non-technical information)
- Ability to communicate effectively directly with clients and, at times, serve as primary point of client contact
