Job Summary:

Serves as a shared Special Education Director for districts that select this GWAEA service. This role supports the implementation of district special education services. Provides leadership and support to schools and families to meet the needs of all children, including the facilitation of school improvement activities and/or services for children requiring special education. Manages, supervises and evaluates assigned professional and support staff members in districts.

This role also serves as Special Education Facilitator to support agency-wide special education leadership as assigned.

Qualifications:

Iowa instructional or support license in an area of special education.

Iowa administrator license with Iowa Evaluator Approval.

Master's degree in the field of education or related area.

Three years of professional experience in PK-12 education.

Essential Functions:

Supports general supervision efforts and the implementation of special education policies and procedures in the agency and districts.
Reviews agency and district data on IEP and IFSP compliance and supports the development and implementation of corrective action plans to address identified concerns.
Provides leadership for special education count activities in the districts.
Establishes, implements and evaluates Agency activities in response to best practices and changing client needs.
Attends agency, regional, and state meetings as a representative of the agency and provides leadership for implementation of statewide efforts within the agency.
Manages, supervises and evaluates effectiveness of designated staff.

Additional Responsibilities:

Participates in projects, committees or activities to support the agency's mission, goals and priorities.

Pursues professional growth opportunities and relationships to keep current with and influence educational directions.

Promotes a learning environment and assists staff in accessing necessary resources for individual professional growth goals.

Develops and maintains effective team functioning through collegial problem solving, coaching and mentoring.

Assures equitable distribution of Agency services.
6. Performs other such duties as may be assigned.

Ability to analyze, interpret, use and communicate data to make educationally sound decisions.

Progressive and visionary in responding to current laws, trends and issues in education.

Ability to read and interpret documents, write reports and correspondence, and apply appropriate mathematical concepts.

Ability to use and integrate technology efficiently, effectively and appropriately in daily work.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to travel between schools/sites served and outside of service area.

Normal, routine levels of activity related to bending, carrying, climbing, hearing, lifting, reaching, sitting, standing, vision and walking, and may also involve above-average levels of activity at times that can't always be anticipated.
