Overview

POSITION TITLE: Chief of Schools and Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment

CLASSIFICATION: Executive Cabinet Member

REPORTS TO: Superintendent

The Chief of Schools and Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment serves as a transformative leader dedicated to building principal capacity and aligning comprehensive learning supports to drive student success. This role champions rigorous, coherent systems of curriculum, instruction, and assessment that promote academic achievement and the overall well-being of every student.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities — Chief of Schools
  • Establishes mutual accountability and responsibility among Principals and staff to promote professional capacity and practice improvement.
  • Leverages staff expertise to design and implement job-embedded professional learning opportunities in alignment with district goals.
  • Initiates and navigates courageous conversations about diversity and culture and the impact on student learning; corrects intolerant statements and behaviors. Builds the capacity of staff to engage in courageous conversations.
  • Defines systemic implications of how change initiatives interact to maintain coherence and achieve the vision.
  • Oversee and direct the operations and management of the area schools.
  • Lead principals at the school level with management, school improvement, and overall leadership development using the High-Reliability Schools Framework for School Leaders and the Iowa Standards for School Leaders.
  • Plan and facilitate administrative meetings for principals.
  • Responsible for the professional development, coaching, and evaluation of campus-level administrators.
  • Collaborate with the Executive Cabinet on system-level strategic planning, operationalizing school supports, and prioritizing district-level needs—including professional development, resource deployment, innovative programming, and compliance measures.
  • Analyze assessments and student performance indicators to guide school improvement plans.
  • Responsible for various budgets.
  • Serves as a member of the Superintendent's cabinet.
  • Attend Board meetings and prepare reports for the Board upon request.
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned by the Superintendent.
  • Review and follow up on district complaints regarding parents, students and/or staff.
  • Review and respond to in-district permits.
  • Supervises/approves time off for admin/support staff.

  • Develops and supports intellectually rigorous and coherent systems of curriculum, instruction, and assessment to promote each student's academic success and well-being.
  • Builds the capacity of the staff to develop and implement rigorous, culturally responsive learning expectations and curriculum, instruction, and assessments.
  • Coordinates and supports an integrated, tiered system of support that meets the diverse needs of student learners。
  • Leads data analytics and system development to monitor key metrics, ensuring accountability and data-driven decisions that support district and school improvement efforts.
  • Oversees the strategic implementation and management of curriculum, instruction, assessment, professional learning, magnet, and related resources to advance the mission of CRCSD.
  • Develops and reviews policies and procedures to ensure organization-wide systemic and systematic alignment to the District strategic plan and with state and federal regulations.
  • Orchestrates the implementation and capacity-building of CRCSD's Instructional Framework, specifically professional learning communities, model of instruction, and guaranteed and viable curriculum.
  • Supervises curriculum, instructional, and assessment staff, such as, but not limited to, executive directors, curriculum coordinators, and teacher leaders.
  • Leads and supports innovative programs such as magnet schools, blended learning, and hybrid models while securing funding to expand instructional opportunities for students.
  • Oversees the Mentoring and Induction program supporting beginning teachers.
